3 Easy Ways to Master Pitching as a Creative

How to Improve your Pitching Skills as a Creative

As a content creator, pitching myself to clients is one of the biggest parts of my job. Each week I try to reach out to 5-10 brands and subsequently hear back from half. Similar to baseball, pitching takes a lot of practice and some strategy. To improve your pitching skills to land your dream brands, keep reading!

One: Keep the Pitch Short

My first tip is to keep your pitches short and sweet. In todays market, the key is to be brief with everything you do! Marketing professionals receive a ton of emails a week and you want to stand out and keep them interested throughout the pitch. I like to keep mine to a few short paragraphs with a sentence or two in each. A great formula to use is an introduction/hook, your idea for the brand, and a call to action. This will be logical for the marketer to understand while remaining informative.

Two: Personalize Everything

Personality and a human connection will get you far in this industry!

While it can be difficult to pitch to multiple brands in a day, remember to always be personal and tweak each pitch to the brand you want to work with. Always greet the brand by their name and adjust your words to fit their niche or specialty. By taking the small extra step, the brand is then more likely to engage with you and you’ll be closer to sealing the deal! At the end of the day, social media was always meant to be social so add that human connection we all crave.

Three: Smaller Brands Equal Big Results

Okay hear me out on this last one, if you want to be successful when pitching to brands, go for smaller brands! When a business does not have hundreds of thousands of followers, they will be far more likely to work with you compared to a large business. Sure they may not have the finances of a bigger brand, but they will invest in you both as a creative and a person. It honestly never hurts to ask!
