Start of Summer Outfit Ideas

Midsize Friendly Outfits of the Week

I can’t believe summer is here in full swing! To celebrate the start of summer, I spent my week at home fluttering around Spokane. It’s my last full week in town for awhile so I found myself trying new restaurants and experimenting with Amazon fashion a bit. Recently I picked up a few budget friendly Amazon dresses so expect to see those a bit. I also went paddle boarding for the first time in 4 years which was rather challenging with the weather but any excuse to wear a bikini I will take so it was great overall! Now, to see what I wore this past week, keep on reading!

Summery First Date Outfit

I kicked off my week by actually going on a first date! It was my 5th first date that month and while the date wasn’t all that great, it was nice to get out of the house and at least try. For the date, I went with my favorite summer combo this year, light wash shorts and a button down! Both pieces are from Abercrombie and the quality is top tier. Since it was a date, I decided to dress it up a bit with a nice square neck tank and some big heels. Seeing as my date was around 6’7, I chose to wear some of my biggest heels. This Amazon pair is great because they are tall and have a comfortable platform. The heel itself isn’t very steep and the cork detail is cute and summery!

Pro Tip: wear a nude heel with shorts if you want to make your legs look extra long. I love how a looser pair of denim shorts becomes elevated with a basic heel, it’s such a great look and a nice way to get the high low aesthetic. I will always advocate for high and low brow fashion, it makes for an interesting outfit and I always think it’s cute!

Denim Overalls for the Market

As the week continued on, I went and did a little photoshoot with my photographer Tiffany of Tiffany Given Photography at the Kendall Yards night market! I wore my favorite overalls from Free People that are incredibly comfortable and easy to walk around in. While the temps outside were quite high, I didn’t feel so hot because the jumpsuit was oddly ventilated. With how loose the overalls are you actually get a hint of a breeze which is always nice! To make this look appropriate for summer, I just styled it with a tank and white sandals. Simple accessories will always be in style and are oftentimes the most comfortable from my experience!

Fluttery Maxi Dress for Less

I told you there is a bit of Amazon this week! Kicking off the dresses segment I wore this beautiful Free People lookalike dress to my Gals Need Pals event at the Backbar Skincare spa on the South Hill in Spokane. I felt gorgeous in this piece, it has a beautiful open back and I like the v-neck top. It’s also quite long even on my 5’8 frame which can be hit or miss with Amazon pieces. For reference I got a M and it fits quite beautifully. To complete the look, I wore my favorite white heels from Amazon and accessorized with my go to Gucci handbag. Sometimes simple styling is the way to go, especially when wearing a statement dress like this one!

Checker Print Midi Dress

I want to start off by saying this dress is supposed to be a little bit longer so if you’re more petite this is a maxi option! Since I am on the taller side this turned into a midi on me but the dress itself is so comfortable that I don’t even mind. Coming once again from Amazon, this knit dress is a new summer go-to. I wore it by itself for dinner at Off the Wall in downtown Spokane but it would be just as cute for a brunch with a band tee layered on top. When it came to shoes, I wore this with my platform clogs which weren’t the most practical option for summer. I should have gone with a dad sandal or a slide on pair which would have kept my feet cooler in the heat. Regardless though I really liked how this outfit turned out and I felt super cute which is always a win!

Paddle Boarding Beach Outfit

My final outfit of the week was my beach look! We went out to Lake Coeur D’Alene and I wore this cute swimsuit from Aerie underneath my go-to Abercrombie dad shorts. While at the lake, my friends and I went paddle boarding so I opted for swimwear that was high waisted and covered my chest well. To make this appropriate for the grocery store, I added the aforementioned white button down that always adds a bit of effortlessness to an outfit. I then completed the outfit with a squishy pair of sandals from Amazon. These are waterproof and easy to throw on in the sand. Plus since it’s a lighter color my feet didn’t burn when putting them on after sitting in the sun!

Have a Fashionable Week

I hope you enjoyed these outfit ideas for summer! Whether you are going to an event or you’re looking to mix up your everyday style, I have your back. Since it’s my first summer in Spokane, I’m definitely in my experimental era trying out seasonally appropriate outfits. While it’s been challenging dressing for such hot temperatures, I’m noticing the key is light colors and baggier garments.
